The Doctor Who Chose Life Over Abortion
At Save a Life International, we are dedicated to supporting women facing the incredibly difficult decision of whether or not to continue their pregnancy. Our Life Centers serve as crisis pregnancy centers, providing crucial support and guidance during such critical times.
As an obstetrician-gynecologist with 40 years of experience, I understand the profound impact of these decisions. From 1984 to 2004, I performed abortions and was known for my skill in the procedure. Women came to me from all over the region. At that time, medical science asserted that fetuses felt nothing in the womb, that pain and emotions developed only after birth. We focused solely on the woman, disregarding the interests of the fetus.
However, my perspective began to shift, influenced by my believing friends, Catholics who introduced me to a different approach to this issue. I began to feel a sense of guilt. My first pregnancy was complicated by Rh incompatibility without any prior blood transfusions, and I was haunted by the question, "Why?"
When my daughter turned 16, I became fearful for her future. In 2004, I transitioned to working at the newly opened regional maternity hospital, now the Zhytomyr Regional Perinatal Center, to save lives. By then, ultrasound technology had unveiled a whole new world within the womb. We discovered that the fetus was a living being.
At Life Center, our work is driven by a profound sense of calling. We collaborate closely with doctors who share our commitment to the sanctity of life, women's dignity, and love. We are here to help women make their own decisions, to support them on their journey, and to offer a sense of unity with people who genuinely care about their situation.
Our mission is to save lives and uphold the sanctity of life, while providing compassionate support to women in crisis pregnancies. We believe in the dignity of every woman and the preciousness of every unborn child. By working together with dedicated medical professionals, we ensure that women receive the best possible care and guidance during these challenging times.
Thank you to our donors for making this possible. Your support allows us to continue our vital work and make a difference in the lives of women and their unborn children.
Together, we can uphold the values of life, dignity, and love.
