Rebuilding in Kherson, Ukraine

On January 2, 2023, our team traveled into Kherson, Ukraine for the second time since its occupation. At the time, the city was located three miles from the front lines and was freed by Ukrainian troops in November 2022.

War in Ukraine puts civilians in constant danger: from sudden drops in temperature and constant missile shelling, to insufficient grocery goods and housing. During our first visit, we witnessed empty stores and felt for ourselves what it means to live in these conditions.

Most parts of Kherson aren’t even close to returning to their normal routines since they have no gas or electricity. The situation is still critical. Thanks to your generous help and our wonderful team of staff and volunteers, we were able to help hundreds of families in Kherson...even stopping along the way to villages to help rebuild the children's hospital and maternity unit. Watch the video below to see how your donations help change the lives of Ukrainians this winter.

Senior Direct of Logisitcs, Yura Lesko, leads the team and greets villagers outside Kherson.

It’s hard to believe, but thousands of mothers with children choose to stay in Kherson, and in the basement of the local maternity hospital, babies are being born every day. However, without needed medication, Ukrainian babies are at the risk of dying in just a few hours. Without food, many families will starve.

Our staff and volunteers spent the first week of 2023 in Kherson serving in the regional hospital, local children's hospital, and local maternity hospital, all of which were damaged during the missile strikes at the end of 2022.

We were able to provide medication, repair shattered windows and even give children some presents!

Meeting with staff at the local maternity ward and delivering aid packages.

We also visited the countryside around Kherson. 90-95% of it is in complete ruins. People that are unable to leave still live there, however. Save a Life International provided bags of groceries to help locals survive.

We distributed more than 500 bags of groceries and more than 500 presents for kids. We also got to drop off supplies to some kids with special needs and their families.

Even small donation amounts help us reach this $1,000,000 milestone goal. Each dollar contributed helps to warm and light the houses of Ukrainians this winter.

We encourage you to think about joining this campaign for today to preserve life in Ukraine for tomorrow.
