Client Story: One Hour to Save a Life
A gynecologist contacted Zhytomyr Life Center and informed the director about a woman named Galyna, who had come to register for an abortion, also providing the Life Center with the woman's phone number. Tamara Shcherbatenko, director of Zhytomyr Life Center shares about her encounter with Galyna.
“I called Galyna around 1 PM, and when she picked up, she was sobbing. The woman explained that she did not want to have an abortion and that her mother-in-law was forcing her. Galyna mentioned that she was already scheduled for an appointment at 2 PM the same day, and did not have time for conversations. Miraculously, I managed to persuade her to stay on the phone with me and she agreed to miss her appointment and come to Zhytomyr Life Center.
Turns out Galyna lives with her husband, two children, and a mother-in-law. Her relationship with her mother-in-law is so tense that when the woman learned that her daughter-in-law was pregnant, she literally "kicked her out" to have an abortion.”
Galyna visited our Life Center not alone, but together with her twelve-year-old daughter. When asked to express her thoughts on the situation the girl said "Yes, I know that Mom is getting an abortion. I will be with her in case she doesn’t feel good”
“I began to tell the tearful woman, about the works of Save a Life International, and the ways we can help her. Galyna then explained that her husband is indifferent towards the situation and mostly listens to his mother. She confessed that she didn't want to get an abortion but was afraid to return home without one either, and asked me to call her husband. So I did. I explained to him everything I just shared with his wife. I then asked Galynas’ husband not to murder their child. He listened in silence as I spoke. At the end of the call, he finished with an “Okay” and hung up. A few minutes later, he called his wife and asked her not to get an abortion. Galyna was crying yet again, but this time, with tears of joy!
I embraced her with great relief assuring her everything would be fine! Before Galyna returned home with her daughter, I gathered some essentials for the baby and hygiene products for her to take home. In the evening, Galyna together with her husband called me and thanked me for supporting them and for saving their baby’s life!”
Now, Galyna constantly calls and shares about her life with Zhytomyr Life Center and participates in our “Learn and Earn” program remotely since she lives far away. In just one hour, God transformed Galyna's life and saved her unborn child!
The call made that day by the director of Zhytomyr Life Center Tamara Shcherbatenko, prevented an abortion. In 2023, Save a Life International made nearly 2,000 life-changing calls across all 12 Life Centers similar to this one and calls to sustain connections and support our existing clients, and nearly 1,000 mothers have joined the loving family of Save a Life International. Thanks to our donors and partners, we can build personal connections with these women and support them and clients of previous years in their times of need.
