Alyona’s Story: A Transformed Life

Alyona and her dauther, Amina

Seven years ago, a young couple came to us…a husband and his wife, Alyona. They each came for different reasons: Alyona wanted us to help her obtain an abortion, and the husband was seeking support to keep the baby. It was a unique and unusual story because with most of our clients’ stories, it is almost always the man in the relationship who initiates the conversation around pursuing abortion.

Unfortunately, in the end, they chose to get an abortion at that time. Our team was extremely disappointed that we did not get the chance to support them further.

A year later, in the same exact room, and with the same couple who was again pregnant, our staff discussed supporting them again. We were shocked but elated that they chose to reach out to us a second time.

After many long hours of discussion and consulting with our staff and volunteers, Alyona and her husband decided to keep the baby!

A beautiful girl was born - Amina.

Years later, and after the birth of their third child, we got to stand by Alyona again as an extremely difficult period of domestic abuse for her began. Thankfully, our relationships with Alyona by that time were in a place where she felt comfortable coming to us alone for help. We were able to work with her and the friends at her local church to get her the support and protection she and her kids needed.

She went on to trust in Jesus as her savior, and shortly after began volunteering and serving women in crisis in our local Life Center.

Currently as a refugee with her children in Romania, she is the founder of a non-profit to help Ukrainian refugees in the area which also opened a school for Ukrainian children.

We are truly amazed as we reflect on Alyona when she first came to us…a woman in crisis, resistant to life and hostile to spiritual matters of God. Her radical transformation over the last seven years into a mother of three who has survived abuse and now, filled with joy, runs a successful nonprofit and children’s school is stunning.

We are so thankful for the chance to partner with women like Alyona over the course of many years, and we look forward to seeing where she goes and what goals she conquers next!
